The colors and emblem for each Hawaiian Island was first adapted in 1923 by the Territorial Legislature (before Hawaii became the 50th State) All are native fauna that is naturally associated with that island, except for the Lokelani (rose) representing Mau`i. The beautiful shells of Ni`ihau can only be found on that island and are rare and very much sought after. The limu kala, representing Molokini though not a fauna represents that island. |
